Pedestrian critically injured in East State crash
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating a crash on the city's northeast side. On Tuesday at about 4:30 p.m., in the 4300 block of East State Boulevard near North Coliseum Boulevard, a person was flagging down an off-duty officer who was driving in the area and ran into the street. At the same time, an on-duty officer heading west on East State barely missed the pedestrian, but a car behind the officer hit the person in the road, according to FWPD. The accident left the pedestrian in a life-threatening condition, and they were taken to a hospital. FWPD then began investigating the crash, and the driver of the car was cooperating with law enforcement. FWPD said they believe that neither speed nor intoxication was a factor in the crash. Police say that they are not sure why the pedestrian was running into the roadway. East State Boulevard was closed, but has since reopened. The crash's investigation is ongoing.
