Panama City man arrested for fatal hit-and-run crash
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) - A Panama City man was arrested on Friday for allegedly leaving the scene of a traffic crash that left one Youngstown man dead. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, shortly before 4:30 p.m., William Vestal, 40, was traveling southbound on Cherokee Street when he entered the pathway of an SUV entering the intersection on Bay Head Road. Vestal was reported to have been travelling well above the speed limit. Troopers reported that the SUV entered the intersection, then collided with Vestal's vehicle on the left side On Friday, it was reported by the Florida Highway Patrol that the driver of the SUV was the one entering the pathway of Vestal's pickup truck; however, this has since been corrected. It was reported that the driver of the SUV, a 54-year-old man, died from his injuries. After the collision, Vestal allegedly fled the scene on foot and was apprehended by Bay County Sheriff's Office deputies a short time later. Vestal was arrested on Friday and charged with driving while license suspended, causing death or serious injury, and leaving the scene involving death Vestal was adjudicated guilty of DUI involving a crash with serious bodily injury in 2016 and was sentenced to 5 years in prison.
