One killed during crash involving a wrong-way driver on I-35, WDM police say

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- The West Des Moines Police Department says one person was killed during a collision on Interstate 35. At 1:35 p.m., West Des Moines Police posted on Facebook saying officers had responded to a motor vehicle crash with injury at Interstate 35, near the EP True Parkway overpass. Just before 3:30 p.m., authorities confirmed one person had died as a result of the collision. West Des Moines Police says officials received the initial report at 1:17 p.m. when a caller reported a car was driving the wrong way in the southbound lanes of Interstate 35. Authorities confirmed three vehicles were involved in the crash. One person was killed in the collision, and authorities say the two other drivers received non-life-threatening injuries. Names of involved drivers are being withheld pending family notification. The I-35 southbound lanes were closed to allow investigators to finish their work. Authorities and the Iowa DOT reported all lanes of the interstate had reopened around 4:30 p.m.
