One dead, one injured in 2-vehicle crash in Madera County
A 25-year-old Madera man was killed Wednesday evening after a two-vehicle crash at a rural intersection in Madera County that sent both vehicles overturning into an orchard, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP Madera officers responded to the crash around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Avenue 18 1/2 and Road 9. A 40-year-old Chowchilla man was driving a silver 2022 Hyundai Tucson westbound on Avenue 18 1/2 approaching Road 19. CHP said the Toyota driver failed to stop at the stop sign and entered the intersection into the path of the Hyundai, which had no stop sign. Both vehicles overturned and came to rest in an orchard northwest of the intersection, CHP said. The 25-year-old was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the Toyota. Despite lifesaving measures, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Hyundai driver was wearing a seat belt and was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries. CHP urged drivers to come to a complete stop at stop signs, look left, right, then left again, and proceed only when it is safe, warning that rolling through or ignoring a stop sign can have tragic consequences.
