One dead after crash involving EMS, PSP vehicles

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) -- One person is dead after a vehicle traveling the wrong way on PA 283 on Saturday night crashed into an EMS and Pennsylvania State Police vehicle, according to State Police at Lancaster. The Lancaster County Coroner's Office responded to Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital for a patient death in the emergency department on Saturday. A woman, identified as 48-year-old Heather Bare of York New Salem, succumbed to her injuries after the coroner's office says her vehicle collided with an SUV on Route 283 in East Hempfield Township on Saturday, the coroner's office said. Pennsylvania State Police said Troopers were notified of the crash at around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday. They determined Bare was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of PA 283 when she struck an EMS vehicle before striking a Pennsylvania State Police vehicle. The EMS vehicle's occupants attempted to provide aid to Bare and the occupants of the PSP vehicle. The occupants of the PSP vehicle were transported to a local hospital. Their conditions are unknown. Pennsylvania State Police is investigating. Bare was transported to the Lancaster County Forensic Center for further investigation. The cause and manner of death are unknown. An autopsy has been scheduled.
