NTSB report reveals details of fatal Jessamine County plane crash
NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (FOX 56) — Newly released findings from the National Transportation Safety Board reveal what happened in the final moments before a deadly plane crash in Jessamine County. Around 8:40 a.m. on June 20, a CA6-WB aircraft piloted by 72-year-old Brian Paul Tonner departed from Lexington's Blue Grass Airport. His wife, 71-year-old Karen, was also aboard. According to investigators, the plane ascended to 4,5000 feet before it began to descend, crashing in Jessamine County about four minutes after departure. Eyewitness video and audio captured on a nearby doorbell camera showed the plane flying at a low altitude, uttering a grinding noise, followed by a popping sound. According to the report, the plane’s fuselage separated from both wings during what was described as an inverted, near-vertical descent. Several witnesses reportedly described seeing the plane "spinning" as it fell. Debris was scattered across a 1700-foot debris path. The wreckage was collected for further examination. The aircraft never caught fire, per the report. The crash killed both of those aboard.
