New video: Inside multi-county manhunt and golf course chase
SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio (WJW) - The FOX 8 I-Team has uncovered new video and more fallout after gunfire at a state trooper, followed by a carjacking and a chase through a golf course. The chaos began in Stark County on Tuesday and it ended in Summit County. Police video takes you inside the manhunt. A Hudson Police 911 call showed a woman reporting, "Shots fired at Terex and Darrow Road. Officer is OK, but shots were fired," a woman reported over a Hudson police 911 call. "Shots were fired. The guy ran. There was a car accident. There's four cars." In fact, at the scene police found a big accident, but the suspect had vanished. "Got a handgun. Fired one round at me. I fired four rounds," a trooper told Hudson police. It was all part of a manhunt for a suspect wanted in a case of attempted murder. That manhunt went on for hours. Investigators said the suspect also carjacked a vehicle and led a chase through the Fox Den Golf Course. "I was in shock more than anything,. I was like, is this really happening?" witness Ben Hyle said. "I was on the 18th hole. We heard the commotion coming, all the sirens, looked up and saw that van coming." According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the incident started in Canton, hours before the chaos came to northern Summit County. Troopers tried to pull the suspect over, but he refused to stop. "Some guy just came into the studio that we have here and threw bricks at us asking where our car keys were," another 911 caller said. A long trail of terror and chaos sparked calls to police along with a social media firestorm. People tried to warn neighbors this could be coming to their street next. It finally came to an end in Stow with more tense moments. Stow police said the suspect crashed into a Summit Metro Parks cruiser, flipping it over. More police video showed that impact. Police said after that, the suspect then ran again. But this time, he didn't get far. Witnesses admitted they were left stunned. "It was scary. I was very shocked and scared to see this, and he was yelling, 'Stay in your vehicle, stay in your vehicle!'" Natasha Chapmon said. Police arrested 39-year-old Julius Edwards. We found he had been on parole at the time. He had been released from prison five years ago and has a criminal record dating back about 20 years. A grand jury is expected to consider this case and many felony charges.
