New details on deadly Highway 44 collision disclosed

UPDATE: Dec. 29; 2:03 p.m. The Texas Department of Public Safety has provided more information about the recent tragic rollover accident on State Highway 44, east of San Diego. Investigators reported that a 2012 Peterbilt truck hydroplaned after hitting a patch of water, leading it to overturn into the westbound lanes from the eastbound side. The driver, a 34-year-old male, was taken to Christus Spohn Alice for treatment, while the passenger, Thomas Ramos, 59, from Alice, tragically passed away at the scene. The accident is currently under investigation by troopers from the Alice Highway Patrol Office, looking into weather conditions and road conditions as possible contributing factors. Staff Sergeant Rob Mallory confirmed that an 18-wheeler rolled over on SH 44, resulting in the passenger's death at the scene.
