New charges added for suspect in Ybor City crash after toxicology findings
Silas Sampson, the man accused in the fatal Ybor City crash that resulted in the death of four individuals and injuries to others, is now facing additional charges. The Hillsorough County State Attorney's Office disclosed that new charges have been brought against Sampson after toxicology reports indicated that his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit and also detected marijuana in his system at the time of the incident. Initially charged with multiple offenses including fleeing to elude and vehicular homicide, Sampson now faces further accusations. The incident occurred when Sampson, allegedly driving at high speed down 7th Avenue, attempted to avoid a turning vehicle, resulting in a collision with a group of people in front of The Copper Shaker and Bradley's on 7th. Video surveillance of the event captured Sampson trying to evade officers after the crash. State Attorney Suzy Lopez emphasized the seriousness of impaired driving and expressed solidarity with the victims and their families. In light of the devastating consequences of the crash, Sampson remains in custody without bail pending his trial.
