Neighbors start makeshift memorial for pedestrian killed in Encinitas
ENCINITAS, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A memorial has started to form off El Camino Del Norte in Encinitas after a female pedestrian was struck and killed Friday night. The name of the victim or her age has not been released. The incident happened Friday night around 7:15 p.m., and investigators say the driver of a Nissan Z traveling westbound struck her as she crossed the road. The driver stayed on the scene and was not injured. “I was compelled to bring flowers. It’s such a tragedy,” said nearby resident Robin Missalidis. Missalidis heard the sirens Friday night and woke to the news of the tragedy. A cause of the collision has not been released, but neighbors say speeding and visibility due to the sun and the time of day are concerns on that stretch of road. “Speeding is definitely an issue; we need something that will slow drivers down,” Missalidis said. Investigators said drugs or alcohol did not play a role in the incident.
