FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of one of their own following a crash, according to the sheriff's office. Deputy Kaleb Mitchell died Saturday in a crash while in the line of duty. The FCSO said it will have a memorial in front of the Sheriff's Office, located at 301 North Church Street in Winston-Salem. They said the community is welcome and encouraged to pay their respects. "What greater love than a man's service for his community? Willing to lay down his life for others," said Sheriff Bobby F. Kimbrough Jr. "We serve. We serve. We serve." Leaders across North Carolina have taken time out to virtually pay their respects to Deputy Mitchell. Governor Josh Stein said in a statement: Authorities have also voiced their condolences after hearing the news. "The entire Wake County Sheriff’s Office mourns the loss of Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Deputy Kaleb Mitchell, who lost his life in a car crash this morning while serving his community," deputies said on social media. "Deputy Mitchell’s service and sacrifice will always be remembered." "Our heartfelt sympathies are with you during this time of immense loss," said the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, which has had its own losses with two troopers who recently died in car crashes in February. At the memorial, a flag and a bouquet of flowers were laid across a deputy car in front of the Forsyth County Public Safety in downtown Winston-Salem on North Church Street. The FCSO also said it will share more information regarding the crash as it becomes available.
