Name released in car vs. semi crash on I-29 near SF

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- An Aberdeen man died on Thursday in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 29 just north of Sioux Falls. James Knapp, 56, of Aberdeen, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo southbound on Interstate 29 near mile marker 88. The vehicle came to a complete stop in the driving lane and was hit from behind by an oncoming semi driven by 35-year-old St. Paul, Minnesota man, according to a press release from the South Dakota Department of Safety. The Monte Carlo came to a stop in the west ditch. Knapp died from the injuries. The 35-year-old was not injured. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
