Musician nominated for Grammy killed by driver with over 100 arrests in Rhode Island

A musician who was nominated for a Grammy award tragically lost his life after being hit by a driver with a long history of arrests and traffic violations in Rhode Island. The victim, Roderick Macleod, 70, was a former member of the popular band Roomful of Blues in the 1980s and had received recognition for his work with them. Known in the community for his musical contributions, Macleod was posthumously inducted into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame in 2014. The fatal incident occurred while Macleod was walking his dogs and was struck by a car driven by Shannon Godbout, 41, who police identified as driving recklessly. Godbout reportedly veered off the road, hitting multiple objects including Macleod and two telephone poles. Macleod was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital but, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries. His dog miraculously survived and made its way back home. Godbout, who was found in possession of illicit drugs and related materials, was promptly taken into custody and currently faces serious charges, with more possibly pending. Authorities revealed Godbout's extensive legal history which included numerous prior arrests and traffic citations in Hopkinton. The investigative process is ongoing, with authorities indicating the potential for additional charges to be brought against Godbout as more details emerge.
