Multiple vehicles involved in fiery crash on I-295 in Yarmouth
The Yarmouth Fire and Rescue Department and Maine State Police troopers responded to a multi-vehicle crash and car fire on Interstate 295 Friday morning. Police said an initial single-vehicle crash happened at about 7 a.m. on the northbound side of I-295, as the vehicle left the roadway and came to a rest in the median near mile marker 16.Two passing vehicles stopped on the shoulder of the median to help the driver involved in the initial crash.At about 7:15 a.m., another vehicle traveling northbound on I-295 struck both vehicles along the shoulder of the median. Police said the collision pushed one of those vehicles into the vehicle involved in the initial crash.The vehicle that crashed into the two stopped vehicles then caught fire. Firefighters were able to put out the flames.State police said all of the people involved were able to safely exit their vehicles, and no injuries were reported.Yarmouth Fire and Rescue officials, however, said that one person was treated at the scene and transported to a hospital. Police said the scene was cleared within an hour of the initial 911 call.The crash remains under investigation by the Maine State Police.
