Multiple people taken to trauma centers after Franklin County head-on crash

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) -- Four people were rushed to trauma centers following a crash that shut down a Franklin County road Saturday morning. Crews found two vehicles that had crashed head-on and were on fire just before 6:30 a.m. on Mercersburg Road in the Mercersburg area, MMP&W Volunteer Fire Company wrote in a Facebook post. Everyone was out of their vehicles upon crews' arrival. Multiple medical helicopters were called to the scene to fly three people to trauma centers, while a fourth person was transported by ambulance, according to the post. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the vehicle fires. The Pennsylvania State Police is investigating the crash. abc27 News reached out to PSP for more information Saturday afternoon, but has yet to hear back. The fire company wrote, parts of Mercersburg Road between Welsh Run Road and Bino Road as crews cleared the scene. "Incidents such as this highlight the importance of strong mutual aid partnerships and coordinated regional emergency response," the fire company wrote. "The seamless cooperation between fire, EMS, law enforcement, communications personnel, and aviation resources ensured that all patients received rapid access to advanced medical care." The fire company thanked Washington County Company 13, the Rescue Hose Company of Greencastle, Community Rescue Service of Hagerstown, WellSpan EMS, Franklin County Department of Emergency Services, Pennsylvania State Police and the medical flight crews for helping at the scene.
