Multi-vehicle crash shuts down Gulf Freeway after pedestrian struck

HOUSTON (CW39) - A woman is fighting for her life after being hit by a vehicle while attempting to cross the Gulf Freeway on foot Sunday afternoon. The multi-vehicle accident occurred near Scott Street. Houston Police say the woman was trying to cross the main lanes of the freeway when a vehicle struck her. This initial collision triggered a chain reaction involving four other vehicles. Houston Transtar cameras captured the extensive scene, showing debris scattered across the southbound lanes. Emergency crews worked for hours to clear the five-vehicle wreckage. The southbound lanes of the Gulf Freeway were closed for most of the morning as investigators surveyed the scene. However, officials confirmed all lanes were reopened to traffic before 2 p.m. this afternoon.
