Motorcyclist suffers serious injuries in crash on South End Bridge in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)- A motorcyclist is in the hospital after suffering serious injuries in a serious crash Thursday evening on the South End Bridge in Springfield. The Massachusetts State Police states that troopers were called to the crash shortly before 7 p.m. on the westbound side of the South End Bridge, which carries Route 57 westbound and Route 5 southbound. The motorcycle operator was taken to a hospital by EMS with serious injuries. The crash caused major traffic disruptions on Route 5, prompting drivers to use another route when traveling on Thursday. Investigators from the State Police Detective Unit, Crime Scene Services Unit, and Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section were also called to investigate the crash.
