Motorcyclist killed in Friday’s I-5 crash near Marquam Bridge identified
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The motorcyclist who died on Interstate-5 in Portland just south of the Marquam Bridge on Friday was identified as 60-year-old Jason A. Doherty, of Newberg, authorities said. According to the Portland Police Bureau, Doherty was riding a 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle with a sidecar southbound on I-5 leading up to the accident. He took a left turn off the Marquam Bridge before the motorcycle "suddenly veered at a sharp angle," left the travel lane and struck a highway barrier. After a response from both Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue crews, who happened to be passing by, and Portland Fire and Rescue, life-saving measures were attempted, but Doherty ultimately died at the scene, officials said. The crash occurred after 6 p.m. near the 299A/Lake Oswego exit of I-5 and lanes were reopened around 10:30 p.m. Friday night. Doherty's family was notified of his death, PPB said. Police noted that while Doherty was wearing a helmet, it was "a half-shell novelty helmet and not DOT approved." Anyone who has information about the crash is asked to contact Portland police.
