Motorcyclist killed, 3 injured after tow truck crash on Capital Boulevard in Raleigh, police say
RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — One motorcyclist was killed and three other people were hospitalized following a crash involving a tow truck in Raleigh early Friday morning, police said. According to the Raleigh Police Department, officers responded around 2:35 a.m. to a reported crash near the intersection of Capital Boulevard and Trawick Road. Police said a preliminary investigation indicates the tow truck driver was attempting to make a U-turn at a red light when the truck pulled into the path of oncoming traffic. A sedan and two motorcycles then collided with the tow truck. One motorcyclist was killed in the crash. A second motorcyclist was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to survive, according to police. Two people who were inside the sedan were also hospitalized. The passenger suffered life-threatening injuries, while the driver was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening, police said. The tow truck driver was arrested following the crash. Police said they are not yet releasing the charges because they are still pending. As of 8 a.m. Friday, the outbound lanes of Capital Boulevard near Trawick Road remain closed as investigators work the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
