Motorcyclist dies after crash on overpass in Bates County
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A motorcyclist died Friday following a crash on an overpass in Bates County, Missouri. The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the crash, involving a motorcycle and a van pulling a trailer, was reported just after 11 a.m. Friday on the Missouri 52 Highway overpass at Interstate 49 in Butler, about 65 miles south of Kansas City. According to a post on X from the highway patrol, a motorcycle was headed west on Missouri 52 when a van with a trailer exited from I-49 onto Missouri 52 and traveled into the path of the motorcycle. The motorcyclist then hit the trailer. The motorcyclist died as a result of the crash, a highway patrol spokesman said. The victim's identity has not been released. Missouri 52 highway at I-49 remained closed Friday afternoon as troopers investigated.
