Motorcyclist dead after crash in Fairfax County, officials investigating speed

Officials are investigating after a crash involving a motorcycle, a pickup hauling a trailer, and a car left the motorcyclist dead. According to the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened Wednesday afternoon in Lorton, at the intersection of Richmond Highway and Mims Street. FCSO said their investigation revealed that the pickup driver with the loaded trailer was making a left turn from southbound Richmond Highway into the driveway of a business. That's when the trailer was hit by the motorcycle, headed northbound. Then FCSO said the motorcyclist was hit by another car headed southbound. SEE ALSO: Man accused of molesting 3-year-old girls at Prince William County daycare The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but the sheriff's office said he was later pronounced dead. He was identified as 24-year-old Dwain Martin, Jr. Both of the other drivers were uninjured and stayed at the scene, FCSO said. "Preliminary, alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash," FCSO said. "Speed remains under investigation. Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash."
