Motorcycle catches fire after crash on Chickamauga Dam: Driver flees the scene
A motorcycle caught fire after crashing on the Chickamauga Dam Wednesday evening, temporarily shutting down southbound traffic as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames. The crash happened just after 7 p.m. Viewer video showed the motorcycle lying on its side and engulfed in flames, with thick black smoke rising above the roadway. TDOT SmartWay cameras captured firefighters closing both southbound lanes while crews responded to the scene. According to the Chattanooga Fire Department, the motorcycle crashed while traveling over the dam. CFD says the rider had fled the scene before emergency crews arrived. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, and one southbound lane reopened about 10 minutes later. CFD says two other vehicles were involved in the crash, but only one person was injured.
