Miami-Dade deputy critically injured while assisting crash on Florida's Turnpike, according to sheriff's office
A deputy from the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office is currently in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle while assisting the Florida Highway Patrol at a crash site on Florida's Turnpike on Saturday morning. The incident occurred in the northbound lanes of the Turnpike between Northwest 41st Street and 58th Street in Northwest Miami-Dade. The deputy sustained serious injuries and was swiftly airlifted to Kendall Hospital. MDSO Asst. Chief Eric Garcia disclosed that the deputy, a 20-year law enforcement veteran, was on duty and responded to the scene upon hearing reports of a potentially trapped individual in a vehicle. Following surgery, the deputy remains hospitalized. The agency is requesting prayers for his recovery, along with support for his family and colleagues. The importance of slowing down and changing lanes when approaching traffic incidents is emphasized to avoid similar accidents. The driver involved in the collision stayed at the scene, and MDSO's Traffic Homicide unit is currently conducting an investigation.
