Mercedes driver dies in high-speed Raleigh crash into downtown building and tree: Police

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) -- A Raleigh driver died in an early Saturday morning crash into a downtown building, police said. The wreck was reported just before 3:15 a.m. in the 300 block of W. Martin St., near the corner of S. Harrington Street just west of Nash Square, according to a Raleigh Police Department news release. "Upon arrival, officers located a Mercedes-Benz S550 Sedan that had hit a building and a tree at a high rate of speed," the news release said. Police discovered the Mercedes driver was dead inside the car. Officers said the driver, Michael Graham, 36, did not appear to use his seatbelt before the wreck. "The preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling west on Martin Street from the Fayetteville Street area when it struck a parked vehicle at 310 W. Martin Street," officers said. The Mercedes then ended up on the sidewalk, traveling until crashing into the building at 320 W. Martin Street.
