Medical incident causes fatal crash in Aiken County

AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WJBF) - On Tuesday, May 19th, the Aiken County Coroner’s Office responded to deadly crash. The accident was reported at 2:19 p.m. on Columbia Highway North near Beaverdam Road. 64-year-old Charles Cooper of Aiken was the driver of his 1998 Dodge Ram truck traveling south on Columbia Highway North, when he suffered a witnessed medical event. The truck went off the right side of the roadway, struck a utility pole, then overturned. Mr. Cooper was pronounced deceased on scene at 2:50 p.m. One of two passengers in the truck were transported to the hospital with non-life threating injuries. The Coroner’s Office along with SC Highway Patrol are continuing with the investigation. The cause of death is under investigation.
