MCSO: Woman, child dead following Saturday head-on crash

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ind. -- A Saturday afternoon head-on crash in Montgomery County caused the death of a 45-year-old and a 1-year-old. According to a news release from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, officials were dispatched to the area of US 136 and CR 650 West regarding a reported personal injury crash involving two vehicles. When crews arrived, deputies with the office found a Jeep on fire, overturned and in a ditch. The other involved vehicle, a Ford Taurus, was found partially off the roadway. A preliminary investigation found that the Jeep, driven by a Waynetown resident, was traveling eastbound on US 136. The release said the Ford, driven by Courtney Tolbert, an Alamo resident, was traveling westbound on US 136. Officials stated that the Ford reportedly crossed the center line and a head-on crash occurred with the Jeep. Tolbert, along with a 1-year-old who was reportedly in the Jeep, were pronounced dead. The Waynetown resident, along with another juvenile who was reportedly in the Jeep at the time of the crash, were transported to a hospital in Indianapolis due to their respective injuries.
