Massachusetts firm charged after employee's death in 2023 accident

A Massachusetts concrete company has been charged with violating OSHA safety standards following the tragic death of a worker in 2023. The incident involved an employee of John Oliveira & Sons Stamp Concrete, Inc. who was fatally crushed by a large soil screener that unexpectedly closed on September 6, 2023. The investigation revealed that the employee was working on the soil screener when the tail conveyor closed, causing the employee’s head to be crushed. The company has accepted responsibility and will plead guilty to the charges, facing potential penalties of probation for up to five years, a fine of up to $500,000, and restitution to the victim's estate. The sentencing date has not been scheduled yet.
