Mass. man facing charges in fatal crash that killed motorcyclist
A Massachusetts man is facing several charges, including motor vehicle homicide, after a motorcyclist was killed in a Friday evening crash, the Bristol County District Attorney's Office announced.A 52-year-old New Bedford man was operating a Harley-Davidson motorcycle at 9:40 p.m. Friday when he was involved in a crash with a white Ford Explorer that was being driven by a 22-year-old Avon man at the intersection of South East Street and Hill Street. The motorcyclist, Scott Piche, 52, of New Bedford, was found lying in the roadway with serious injuries. He was taken to Morton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.The motorcycle was found in the northbound lanes of South East Street; the Ford Explorer was found in the westbound lanes of Hill Street, facing east.The driver of the Explorer, Jacob Larsen, 22, of Avon, remained at the scene and spoke to police. At the time of the crash, Larsen's driver's license was suspended due to a previous charge of operating under the influence out of Taunton District Court. Larsen was arrested and charged with motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation, operating a motor vehicle while license suspended for OUI, marked lanes violation and failure to yield, in connection with Piche's death. Larsen will be arraigned Monday morning in Taunton District Court. The crash remains under investigation by the Raynham Police Department and Massachusetts State Police.
