Mass. family shaken after car plows across lawn, into front door of home

A crash that sent a sedan into a home late Wednesday in Avon, Massachusetts, is under investigation. The vehicle crashed into the front of the home on Page Street. The force of the impact pushed the front door out of the frame and into the residence."I thought a plane crashed into my house because the damage broke a china cabinet and the windows. So, the glass flew out into my kitchen, so I didn't think it was a car accident, I thought something was in my house," said homeowner Donna Uminski. The car hit Uminski's house, but didn't stop there. "Obviously, there's no marks in the snow. They were airborne there — across the front of my house — and then you can see the path where it turned sideways," said Uminski. There's a trail of debris going across the snow-covered lawn and over to Manny DeSousa's house next door."They were lucky they didn't hit any of those trees there, because if they did, it would be a lot worse," De Sousa said. The man in the driver's seat and the woman in the passengers seat both went to the hospital as a precaution."My son is a doctor. He ran down there, came back up, was like, 'They were talking.' He said, 'Mom, they're talking, they're breathing, they're alive,'" Uminski said. Uminski said it's the fourth time a car has hit so close to home. This time, it destroyed cherished memories."It was a china cabinet full of Hummels, which my mother, God rest her soul, you know, because my children don't want them," Uminski said. "It's sad because they're memories, but it's just glass everywhere." Police said the driver will face charges."So right now, we're looking at negligent operation. We're looking at a marked lane violation. And there will probably be additional charges as the investigation moves forward," said Avon Deputy Police Chief Chris Bartolotta.Video below: Car slams into home
