Mariposa man killed in Coarsegold crash; passenger hurt

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A 35-year-old man from Mariposa died after he was ejected in a crash in Coarsegold early Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP says around 2:15 a.m., officers responded to a solo vehicle crash on Highway 41 at Road 420. Investigators say the 35-year-old man from Mariposa was driving a 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander southbound on Highway 41, approaching Road 420 at an unknown speed.  According to CHP, for an unknown reason, the driver made an unsafe turn to the left and struck the embankment on the east side of Highway 41, causing the Mitsubishi to overturn, where he was ejected and died. A 58-year-old man from Canada, who was a passenger, was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
