Man killed in suspected pedestrian collision on SR-76 in Oceanside
OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — An investigation is underway after a man believed to have been struck by a vehicle was found dead along westbound State Route 76 in Oceanside on Sunday, authorities confirmed. According to the Oceanside Police Department, officers were called to the area around 11 a.m. after a caller reported someone was lying on the side of the road. When officers arrived, they located the man—who was not breathing—and immediately began CPR. North County Fire Protection District personnel responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene at 11:05 a.m. Investigators say the victim, described as a man in early 20s, appeared to have injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. As of now, there is no suspect information, and it's unclear when or how the collision occurred. The investigation prompted the full closure of westbound SR-76 at Old River Road to Singh Way. The shutdown is expected to last several hours as crews process the scene. Drivers are being urged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes. No further information has been released at this time. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
