Man killed in five-vehicle crash on SR-59 identified
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — Police have identified the victim of a crash that involved four cars and one motorcycle from last Friday. On May 1, 2026, around 9:39 a.m., there was a crash between four vehicles and a motorcycle, caused by one vehicle attempting to pass slower traffic in incoming lanes. One person died as a result of the crash, and another was fatally injured. The first vehicle, a black passenger car, was traveling eastbound in order to pass traffic near milepost 14, reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed. A westbound Chevy Avalanche swerved onto the right shoulder to avoid the vehicle, but overcorrected and slid into the eastbound lane. A third vehicle, a Chevy Malibu, was struck by the second vehicle and continued off the road to the right and down a small embankment. A motorcyclist was following the Malibu and swerved left to miss the collision, colliding with a Jeep Wrangler. The motorcyclist ended up on the northbound side of SR-59. The driver of the Chevy Malibu was airlifted to the hospital but later died as a result of his injuries. Utah Highway Patrol officials have since identified the victim as 24-year-old Dallin Mangelson. According to Utah Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist was critically injured and was transported by ground ambulance in critical condition. Two other individuals were also transported to the hospital, but with non-life-threatening injuries. At this time, law enforcement has not identified any of the other individuals involved in the crash. Ava Hart contributed to this article.
