Man killed in collision with tractor-trailer on I-80: NJSP

ROXBURY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (PIX11) — A fatal car accident on I-80 in Roxbury Township had traffic backed up for miles before roads reopened Wednesday morning. According to police, a New Jersey man lost control of his Jeep at around 4:20 a.m. while traveling eastbound on I-80, ran off the road through an "emergency U-turn" area and hit the end of the guardrail. After the initial collision, the 52-year-old's car continued into the westbound lanes and was hit by a tractor-trailer. The man, identified as Shawn Burckure of Andover, died from injuries sustained in the crash, police said. Officials did not say what may have caused Burckure to lose control of his car. The interstate was closed for hours before reopening sometime Wednesday morning, which caused a massive backup in traffic. The investigation is ongoing.
