Man from Romulus injured in car accident on Lodge Freeway near I-94
A 26-year-old man from Romulus was hospitalized following a single-vehicle rollover accident on the Lodge Freeway in Detroit on Sunday morning, according to Michigan State Police. Troopers were alerted to the incident near the westbound I-94 ramp at around 7:45 a.m. after a report of a rollover. Upon arrival, troopers discovered the driver trapped inside a Chevy Suburban. Efforts were made to rescue him before Detroit Fire Department personnel managed to extricate him. The driver was unconscious but still had a weak pulse and was transported to a local hospital by DFD medics. Investigators believe the driver missed the ramp to westbound I-94, went up a grassy embankment, collided with a tree, and then rolled over, with no signs of braking. Evidence indicates that the crash may have happened hours earlier and was only noticed after sunrise. The freeway was shut down during the inquiry. "The driver is presently receiving medical attention," stated F/Lt. Mike Shaw in a press release. "It is uncertain whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the driver missing the ramp." The incident remains under investigation.
