Man from Mansfield accused of DUI in deadly Ellington accident that took life of 16-year-old Stafford boy

In a tragic incident in Ellington in September 2024, a 21-year-old man from Mansfield surrendered to authorities, facing charges for manslaughter, assault, and driving under the influence following a deadly crash. The collision occurred on November 25, 2024, on Route 140 late at night, involving a 2016 Kia Sorento crashing into a tree at high speed. Regrettably, one passenger lost his life in the accident. Reports suggest that the driver, Sergei Moscardelli, allegedly lost control of the vehicle while maneuvering a turn at an intersection, leading to the fatal crash. Moscardelli and another passenger were able to escape the burning car, but tragically, a third passenger, 16-year-old James Moran, was unable to exit the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. Moscardelli exhibited combative behavior following the crash, hindering emergency responders from providing immediate aid. According to statements from witnesses and evidence collected, Moscardelli was found to be under the influence of alcohol, THC, and medication at the time of the crash, driving over the speed limit. He has been charged with various offenses, including manslaughter, assault, and DUI.
