Man from Iowa accused in deadly hit-and-run buggy accident in Clarke County
An Iowa man has been arrested in connection with a tragic hit-and-run involving a buggy that resulted in the death of a 16-year-old in Clarke County. The incident took place on November 12 when a horse-drawn buggy was struck by a Chevrolet Cavalier on R15, south of Forest Street. The buggy, driven by the teenager, was hit from behind, causing the juvenile to be ejected. The driver of the Cavalier fled the scene, but authorities later located the vehicle which matched the description of the one involved in the collision. The suspect, 41-year-old Jacob Wright, from Grand River, Iowa, was apprehended after an investigation and charged with various offenses. Wright had allegedly been driving with a suspended license and without insurance at the time of the crash. He is currently held on a $25,000 cash-only bond at Clarke County Jail and is set to appear for a preliminary hearing on December 23.
