Man from El Paso convicted for murder and other charges in deadly New Mexico accident in 2023

Jeffery Saint Louis, a 29-year-old man from El Paso, was found guilty by an Otero County jury of felony murder and other charges in connection with a deadly crash that occurred in 2023 in Alamogordo. The jury's decision was reached after a five-day trial held by the Twelfth Judicial District Attorney's Office. The charges include felony murder, homicide by vehicle, aggravated fleeing of a law enforcement officer, reckless driving, and driving without a license. Saint Louis was pursued by law enforcement after fleeing from a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint on U.S. Highway 54 and was driving at speeds up to 120 mph. Tragically, he collided head-on with a motorcyclist, Roger Wiley, resulting in Wiley's death. Saint Louis was immediately arrested at the scene, and a subsequent search of the vehicle he was driving revealed 11.3 kilograms of methamphetamine in the trunk. The DEA took possession of the drugs for federal prosecution. The case was investigated by the Alamogordo Police Department and the 12th Judicial Major Crimes Unit, with Deputy District Attorney Arthur Van Haselen III and senior trial attorney David McCardle leading the prosecution. The sentencing for Saint Louis will take place at a later date.
