Man dies of self-inflicted gunshot wound after Attleboro crash
ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — An investigation is underway after a heavy police presence was seen in an Attleboro neighborhood. Police said they responded to a crash in the area of 416 Lindsey Street around 11:15 p.m. Sunday. Upon arrival, a nearby resident and an officer heard a gunshot from inside the vehicle. The officer took cover and the resident ran into their home. A perimeter was quickly set up and a SWAT team approached the vehicle, where they found a 60-year-old New Hampshire man who had taken his life. Police also posted on social media telling residents to stay indoors, then later said the incident was "de-escalated." "The deceased male’s wife reported to New Hampshire law enforcement that he had apparently taken a firearm from his home and drove off yesterday afternoon," police said. "He is believed to have been experiencing a mental health crisis." It's unknown how or why he came to Attleboro.
