Man crushed by utility pole in fatal Franklin County crash, Troopers say

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) -- A man was killed earlier this week after a utility pole crushed him in a Franklin County vehicle crash, State Police said. State Police at Chambersburg said Wednesday, 35-year-old Douglas Spoonhour Jr., of Mercersburg, was driving a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire when he crashed in the 1600 block of Saint Thomas Williamson Road in Saint Thomas Township on Monday, March 9, at 6:16 a.m. Troopers say Spoonhour traveled across the road before hitting an embankment, causing the vehicle to roll, according to the crash report. The vehicle, State Police said, rolled into a utility pole, causing it to crush Spoonhour. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Franklin County Coroner's Office. The Pontiac was towed from the scene.
