Man arrested after fiery crash in Lake Worth leaves one hospitalized, knocks down utility pole

A man is in custody and a 19-year-old is hospitalized after a fiery crash on the Palm Springs-Lake Worth line overnight.The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said the driver of a BMW X4 was driving on Interstate 95 North at a high rate of speed around 11:22 p.m. Monday.When the suspected driver, a 20-year-old man from Riviera Beach, got off at 10th Avenue North, PBSO tried to stop him, but he took off at a high rate of speed, according to a traffic report. The report says the deputies left the area. The driver is then accused of hitting a 19-year-old driver of a Toyota Camry who was turning into her residence on State Street. According to the report, both cars were redirected; the Toyota ended up on a sidewalk, and the BMW hit a wooden light pole and a bus stop. It overturned before stopping on a grass shoulder.Palm Beach County Fire Rescue responded to the reports of a vehicle crash with fire. Crews found the two cars at the scene—one flipped upside down and the other engulfed in flames. PBCFR says no one was inside the vehicles when they arrived, but video sent to WPBF 25 News appears to show police and bystanders carrying someone from one of the cars as flames broke out.According to the traffic report, the driver ran away without leaving his information or helping the other driver. A K-9 searched the area, and the driver was found and arrested. He is charged with resisting arrest. Palm Beach County said the driver of the Toyota was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center. She has critical life-threatening injuries.Utility crews worked into the early morning to make repairs to the pole that was also damaged. As of 6 a.m., utility crews had cleared the scene.
