Man and child identified in Portage County plane crash: OSHP

A small plane crash in Portage County on Sunday afternoon has been identified to have involved a man and a child. The Ohio State Highway Patrol disclosed in a press release that the incident occurred after 2:30 p.m. in a wooded area near 3222 Ranfield Road in Brimfield Township. The pilot, labeled as 47-year-old Bryan Jorgensen, was flying with his 12-year-old daughter as the passenger on their Piper Cub J3C-65 aircraft. Fortunately, both individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were promptly transported to Akron General Medical Center and Akron Children’s Hospital for care. Initial findings suggested that the plane, which initially departed from Wadsworth Airport and was heading back at the time of the accident, faced a loss of power leading to the crash. The FAA's preliminary investigations point towards engine issues as the cause. Thankfully, no ground damage or injuries were reported. The incident continues to be investigated.
