Ludlow man killed in head-on collision in Vermont
SEARSBURG, VT. (WWLP) - A man from Ludlow was killed in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning in southern Vermont. The Vermont State Police stated that troopers were called just before 11 a.m. to a crash on Vermont Route 9 near Old Route 9 in Searsburg, where one driver was reported trapped and unresponsive. Investigators said 53-year-old Alan Vautrain of Ludlow was driving east when his vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane. The second driver attempted to avoid the crash by swerving, but authorities said both drivers tried to correct their paths at the last moment, resulting in a head-on collision. Both vehicles were totaled in the crash. Vautrain died from his injuries at the scene. The other driver was taken to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center for treatment and is expected to recover. The crash remains under investigation.
