Lawsuit filed after man charged with driving drunk kills mother and teenage daughter

Provost Umphrey Law Firm has filed a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of 13-year-old Serenity “Ren” Rivera following a fatal Southeast Texas auto accident that claimed the lives of both Serenity and her mother, Meagan Martin. The lawsuit was filed at the end of April by Serenity’s father and alleges the fatal crash was caused by an intoxicated driver. The collision occurred Friday, March 6 on State Highway 62 near the Jasper and Newton County lines. Martin, 35, and her daughter, Serenity, died. Her 9-year-old son was injured. A Jasper County grand jury indicted 57-year-old Timmy Castillo on charges of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault. The lawsuit seeks accountability and damages related to the deaths of Serenity Rivera and Meagan Martin, as well as the losses suffered by surviving family members. “No family should have to endure the kind of loss this family is facing,” said Matthew Matheny, equity partner at Provost Umphrey Law Firm and lead attorney on this case. “We intend to pursue justice and accountability on their behalf.” "The consequences of drunk and careless driving accidents across Southeast Texas are devastating," said Matheny.
