Law enforcement react to fatal officer-involved crash in Greenwood
(Video above: Police officer killed in Greenwood collision) (WSPA) -- Law enforcement agencies across the Upstate are showing their support for the Greenwood Police Department after one of their officers was killed in a crash Monday. The crash occurred before 5 p.m. at the intersection of East Cambridge Avenue and Ames Street. Details regarding what led to the wreck are unclear. Investigators have not shared the identity of the officer who was killed. In a statement shared on social media, the Greenville County Sheriff's Office asked that people keep the police department in their thoughts. "Please keep [the] Greenwood Police Department close to your hearts right now. This news is tragic for so many involved and we hope for much needed comfort in the days ahead," officials said. Oconee County deputies also expressed their condolences to officers with the Greenwood Police Department. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Greenwood Police Department as they mourn the loss of one of their own this evening. Please pray for the fallen officer's family throughout the coming days," officials said. The Laurens County Sheriff's Office also shared their sympathies. "Please keep this family and the Greenwood Police Department in your prayers tonight," the statement reads. The Anderson Police Department said they are praying for the Greenwood Police Department "and the lives affected by this tragic accident." The Laurens Police Department posted a graphic, signifying that their thoughts are payers are going toward the Greenwood Police Department. The crash investigation is ongoing. More details regarding the incident will be shared with the public during a press conference at Greenwood City Hall Tuesday.
