Laredo airport travelers urged to plan ahead after fatal crash
Following a jet crash Tuesday night that killed one person and injured five others, the Laredo International Airport is advising travelers to allow extra time to reach the terminal as road closures continue near the airport. According to airport officials, the aircraft had attempted to make an emergency landing at Laredo International Airport before crashing onto Loop 20. Airport officials said Wednesday that flight operations remain normal and on schedule despite traffic disruptions caused by the ongoing emergency response and investigation. The advisory comes as local authorities continue to manage traffic in the area and portions of Loop 20 remain closed. “Passengers are encouraged to allow additional travel time when traveling to the airport and use the recommended alternate routes shown below to avoid potential delays,” the airport stated. Recommended routes include: Southbound on Loop 20 toward U.S. 59: Turn west on U.S. 59, continue south and then turn west onto Clark Boulevard. Alternative route: Travel east on Clark Boulevard, make a U-turn and proceed northbound. Northbound on Bob Bullock Loop (Loop 20) and Highway 359: Turn west on Highway 359. Continuing northbound: Use the designated U-turn area after Bencha Drive. Passengers are encouraged to arrive earlier than usual, monitor local traffic conditions before departing and contact their airline directly for flight-specific information.
