Kingsville Police probe crash resulting in officer fatality

Kingsville Police are currently investigating a tragic midday collision that resulted in the loss of one of its officers. The incident occurred just before noon at the intersection of East Caesar Avenue and 8th Street. Reports indicate that a 2000 Ford pickup traveling west on Caesar Avenue made a left turn in front of a Yamaha motorcycle traveling in the opposite direction, driven by 35-year-old Moises Castillo. Despite efforts from witnesses at the scene and emergency responders from Kingsville PD and the Fire Department, Castillo succumbed to his injuries at Christus Spohn Hospital-Kleberg. The driver of the pickup, a 67-year-old Kingsville resident, sustained minor injuries. The investigation is being supported by Texas DPS Highway Patrol. Castillo had a commendable career in the fire service before transitioning to law enforcement, where he was set to officially join the Kingsville Police Department in January. He leaves behind a wife and son, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. KRIS 6 News will continue to provide updates on this sad situation.
