Kenton, TN mayor says deadly shooting was ‘no accident’
OBION COUNTY, Tenn. -- There is shock, grief, and outrage in the Obion County city of Kenton, Tennessee, following the murders of two young children, a weekend crime that left the mother of the girls critically stabbed. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is handling the case and has identified the victims as one-year-old Landrie Harris and 11-year-old McKenna Young, both of whom died from apparent gunshot wounds. The two girls' mother, who has not been identified, was found with stab wounds and taken to Regional One in Memphis. So far, no one has been charged. On June 13, police were called to Jan Lynn Street in Kenton on Saturday to a report of gunfire. "They were defenseless, they couldn't defend themselves, and it was done intentionally. It was no accident," said Danny Jowers, Mayor of Kenton. Mayor Jowers, like almost everyone in Kenton and Obion County, is working to process the violent deaths of two young girls found Saturday in this home on Jan Lynn Street. "Officers, paramedics, and the people that went in there. That's something that's going to stay with them for a while, maybe forever," said Jowers. "I've seen the children around town; they just were part of the community. We didn't have a lot of issues, don't have a lot of issues, it's a very nice neighborhood." "It's not supposed to happen in a little town with fewer than 1,500 people in it," said Terry Owens, who attended church with the victims. Owens drove by the home on Jan Lynn on Monday, with good reason. "Well, I came by 'cause I loved these people. The mom and the kids, they were at church all the time. Yesterday at church, we kind of, everybody was in a state of, 'I can't believe this,'" said Owens. Owens said he believes that authorities will get the situation under control and find out what happened. Monday afternoon, TBI told WREG there are no updates and the investigation is open and ongoing. A GoFundMe has been set up for the victims. Click here.
