Keithville man arrested in May 2025 Caddo fatal crash
DISCLAIMER: All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty. SHREVEPORT, La (KTAL/KMSS) — A Keithville man has been arrested following a thorough investigation into a crash that occurred in May 2025, which resulted in one person’s death. On May 28, 2025, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Caddo Parish deputies responded to a head‑on collision on Colquitt Road, just north of Chandler Road. When deputies arrived, police found both drivers, 55‑year‑old Michael Lane Watts, who was driving a 2008 Toyota Tundra, and the driver of a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado, unconscious at the scene. Both men required extrication by Caddo Fire District personnel and were rushed to Ochsner LSU Health with life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, the unidentified victim was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital. Due to the severity of Watts’s injuries, he was rushed into surgery, leaving deputies unable to interview him or conduct impairment testing at the time of the crash. As the investigation continued, deputies obtained a search warrant through the Caddo District Courts to access Watts’ medical records related to his treatment after the crash. Police say records indicated that a blood sample was taken shortly after his arrival at the hospital, showing his blood alcohol concentration was allegedly above the legal limit. According to Sheriff Henry Whitehorn Sr., authorities issued an arrest warrant, signed by Honorable Judge Donald Hathaway, charging Watts with one count of Vehicular Homicide, with a bond set at $250,000. On February 10, deputies located Watts at his residence on Jersey Gold Road in Keithville and took him into custody without incident. He was transported to the Caddo Correctional Center, where he was booked on the outstanding warrant. The investigation into the fatal crash remains ongoing.
