Kaulig Racing Michigan Cup Race Report

Kaulig Racing’s AJ Allmendinger finished 17th and teammate Ty Dillon 24th in Sunday’s 400-mile NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn. Both Kaulig cars were fast on the two-mile, D-shaped oval, but a record number of accidents—which forced nearly a quarter of the race's laps to run under caution Sunday—made survival the name of the game. Race Recap Both drivers started quickly in the first stage. Dillon rocketed from his 17th starting spot to 11th by the end of the stage, and Allmendinger held strong in 18th where he started the race. Dillon took four tires during an early pit stop in Stage 2, putting him toward the back of the field where traffic was challenging, before he finished 19th. Allmendinger used a two-tire stop to jump into the top 10, overcame a spin on lap 78, and finished 25th in the same stage. Allmendinger overcame his spin, fell to the back of the field, then slowly worked his way forward, dodging several multi-car wrecks in the final stage to secure a 17th-place finish. Dillon raced as high as 11th early, but saw his day turn bad with 45 laps to go when his car suffered damage in a 10-car accident that dropped him several laps behind the leaders. The NASCAR Cup Series returns to action Sunday, June 14, at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway. The 400-mile race will air on Prime, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Channel 90) at 3 p.m. EDT. Driver Quotes AJ Allmendinger "It wasn't the finish we hoped for, but we didn’t fully crash, and we survived. I thought I had killed the car when we spun, but our lap times were not bad after the team assessed and repaired our No. 16 Grizzly Nicotine Pouches car. We’ll take note of what we learned, keep our heads up, and keep grinding. As I've said before, I’m just grateful to the team for the hard work they are putting in every week. We’ll take note of what we learned and move forward to Pocono.” Ty Dillon "I'm disappointed in our result, but we had a really good weekend. We had a very fast Patriot Mobile car today. You saw how we went to the front in the first stage. We struggled in traffic in the middle of the race, but when we had clean air like we did there at the end, I really felt we were going to have a great finish. Unfortunately, it all ended in that wreck. I thought I had it cleared, but I just got clipped and we lost a few laps. I'm really proud of the way the Kaulig Racing team performed today and in the last few weeks. We've got a lot of optimism heading into the rest of the season." Kaulig Racing PR
