Jury selection begins in deadly crash that killed 2 Marquette athletes
Jury selection is officially underway in the trial of the 42-year-old woman, Amandria Brunner, accused of killing two Marquette University lacrosse players last September in Milwaukee. Brunner is accused of driving intoxicated and causing a crash at 27th Street and St. Paul Avenue in Milwaukee that killed 19-year-old Scott Michaud and 20-year-old Noah Snyder.Judge David Swanson told the courtroom Monday morning that there is a jury pool of about 40 people. 12 News was inside the Milwaukee County Courthouse courtroom when Brunner entered the courtroom in handcuffs, as she is currently in custody. Prosecutors say Brunner later admitted to driving under the influence on the day of the crash. Court documents state her blood alcohol content measured .133, which is above the legal limit. She has remained in custody since September. Newly released body camera footage obtained by 12 News from a private security guard captures the moments after the deadly crash near 27th and St. Paul last September. The footage shows the initial response to the scene, including a brief interaction with Brunner. The security guard, who responded before police arrived, did not want to be identified, and his voice has been distorted in the video by 12 News. The crash involved Brunner's pickup truck colliding with a Jeep carrying other Marquette lacrosse players. The body camera footage also shows Peter McColgan, a Marquette lacrosse player who was driving the Jeep. McColgan has been charged with two counts of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle, accused of driving more than 20 miles per hour over the speed limit and attempting to beat a yellow light before the impact. He is due in court in July. If convicted, Brunner faces up to 40 years for each count of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.
